Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA)
Alpha-lipoic acid, also known as thioctic acid, is found naturally in each cell in the body. Its primary purpose is to transform glucose into energy for healthy cellular function. As a supplement, alpha-lipoic acid act as a natural antioxidant throughout the body to scavenge free radicals.* The unique composition of alpha-lopoic acid also enables it to support the health of other antioxidants in the body as they do their part in fighting free radical damage.* Alpha-lipoic acid supports bodily synthesis of glutathione to help make it readily available; glutathione is an important and natural detoxifying substance for overall cellular health.
Arnica
Arnica is a perennial herb long used for medicinal purposes. The plant’s bright yellow flowers make it easily recognizable as a member of the daisy (Asteraceae) family. The Arnica plant’s dried flower heads are used to create a topical balm that is massaged into the skin. Ashwaganda Root
Ashwaganda root is gathered from the evergreen ashwaganda plant (Withania somnifera), a member of the pepper family used in traditional Ayurvedic Indian therapies. Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin is a powerful, free-radical-scavenging antioxidant. Free radicals cause damage at the cellular level; antioxidants such as astaxanthin help fight free radical damage. Avocado / soybean unsaponifiables (ASU)
(ASU)Avocado / soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) is a concentrated nutrient blend made from avocados and soybeans. The term unsaponifiables refers to the all-natural oily fractions in these foods. ASU contains phytosterols, natural plant chemicals, which provide nourishment to support healthy mobility.* In a review of 18 herbal, vitamin, and enzyme therapies by Ameye & Chee (2006), ASU performed well as a plant-based, oral treatment that supports general joint health.1 ASU is used in Nutri-Health’s Avoserra-D® Joint and Muscle and is manufactured entirely in the USA.
Chromium
Trivalent chromium is an essential mineral utilized by the body to support insulin action for healthy carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism and healthy blood glucose level support.* The chromium in Nutri-Health’s Sea Minerals Multi-Plus comes naturally from Aquamin™ in trace amounts and as chromium nicotinate glycinate chelate, a highly absorbable form of chromium for optimum cellular support.* Chromium is found in low amounts in certain foods, making a supplementation a viable way to help meet daily chromium needs.
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid)
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is an omega-3 fatty acid found in cold water fish. DHA is present in significant amounts in the brain and in the retina and is known as one of the essential fatty acids. DHA is readily absorbed by the brain and is often taken in supplement forms such as fish oils to support brain health and cognitive function.* Supportive, but not conclusive, research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease as part of a heart healthy diet. The American Heart Association recommends at least 500mg of EPA/DHA every day. DHA is one of two essential fatty acids in Nutri-Health’s Fish Oil, a pure cold water fish oil blend.
Digestive Enzymes
Digestive enzymes are classified by their substrates:
- proteases and peptidases split proteins into amino acids
- lipases split fat into fatty acids
- carbohydrates split carbohydrates such as starch into sugars
- nucleases split nucleic acids (in foods such as milk and soy beans) into nucleotides
In the human digestive system, the main sites of digestion are the oral cavity, the stomach, and the small intestine (i.e. the duodenum, jejunum and ileum.) Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA)
Gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) is an amino acid derived from glutamic acid by a process known as decarboxylation. GABA exists naturally in the brain and works to calm the central nervous system by inhibiting overactive nerve cells. When taken in a supplement, GABA can promote a healthy stress response and cognitive focus by supporting healthy neurotransmitter activity in the brain.* GABA is an important ingredient in Nutri-Health’s Focus Force™ Active Memory, which incorporates only Pharma GABA 80, an all-natural vegetarian form of GABA, instead of synthetic substitutes.
Ginger Root

Huperzine A
Huperzine A is a natural botanical alkaloid derived from a species of club moss (Huperzia serrata) that has long been used in traditional Chinese herbal treatments. Research suggests that Huperzine A acts as an enzyme inhibitor in the body by blocking an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine.* Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, naturally supports healthy cognitive and memory function and plays an important role in optimal brain health. Lutein
Like zeaxanthin, lutein is also a carotenoid, a fat soluble pigment necessary for photosynthesis and found in certain plants and vegetables. Lutein is readily absorbed by the retina. Lutein and zeaxanthin are the only two carotenoids found in the retina, and both absorb blue light, supporting a healthy release of light into the eye. Carotenoids are antioxidants that protect cells from free radical damage. Magnesium
Magnesium is an essential mineral and necessary for metabolizing carbohydrates and fats into energy, and for supporting healthy bones, healthy muscles and nerves, and a healthy immune system. More than half the body’s magnesium is stored in the bones, the other half in tissues and organs. If the body does not receive an adequate amount of magnesium through diet, it draws on these bodily stores to keep mineral levels in the blood at healthy levels. Manganese
Manganese is an essential mineral found throughout the body as an enzyme activator and in the mitochondria, or powerhouse of each cell, as an antioxidant. NAC
NAC, or N-Acetyl Cysteine, is produced naturally in the body from cysteine, an amino acid. Nettle Root
Nettle root, gathered from the stinging nettle plant (Urtica dioica), is a potent herb long used for its natural analgesic properties. The plant owes its common name to the tiny hairs on its leaves that can produce a stinging effect when brushed against bare skin. The root of the stinging nettle, however, is packed with beneficial constituents such as minerals and amino acids. Powergrape®
Powergrape® is an extract obtained from Bordeaux grapes (Vitis vinifera L.) grown in France’s Bordeaux region. The Powergrape® extraction process is carefully monitored to retain the natural health benefits inherent in the plant. Powergrape® contains a high concentration of total polyphenols (standardized to 90%). These natural antioxidants help protect plants from environmental stressors. Of these polyphenols, 50% are flavanols, a specific class of this antioxidant that has been studied for its health supporting benefits and its bioavailability (ability to be absorbed). Red Ginseng
Korean Red Ginseng Root is known for its energy enhancing properties attributed to inherent ginsenosides that naturally stimulate the central nervous system.* Red ginseng has been extensively researched for its ability to support healthy circulation and healthy energy, and is an important herb in traditional Eastern medicine. Korean Red Ginseng Root is harvested after six years. It is not peeled and it is steam-cured, which yields a glossy reddish-brown color. The steaming process changes ginseng’s biochemical composition, preventing the breakdown of the active ingredients and yielding a remarkably long shelf life without the degradation of active components. This process also yields compounds unique only to red ginseng. Serratiopeptidase
Serratiopeptidase is a systemic enzyme found in the gut wall of silkworms. This enzyme is proteolytic (protein digesting) and helps the moth break down the cocoon and emerge. The proteolytic quality of serratiopeptidase is used to help support a proper inflammatory response by breaking up cellular debris and promoting normal, healthy circulation.* Serratiopeptidase may have a modest blood-thinning effect, but otherwise has no other known side effects.* Serratiopeptidase is an important ingredient in Nutri-Health’s Avoserra-D® Joint and Muscle and ArthroZyme® Joint and Muscle.
Selenium
Selenium is a trace mineral that is incorporated by the body into selenoproteins, antioxidants that protect cells from free radical damage. Senna Leaf
Senna leaf (Cassia angustifolia) is incorporated into supplements to help naturally cleanse sluggish bowels and promote healthy stool.* Senna leaves can be brewed as a tea or processed as a liquid or dry extract for use in supplements. The well known active ingredients in senna leaf are sennosides and anthraquinone glycosides. These glcyosides are synthesized by the body into aglycones, which support healthy water and electrolyte activity in the digestive tract to promote healthy bowels. Short-chain Fructooligosaccharides (scFOS®)
Short-chain fructooligosaccharide (scFOS®) is a natural, prebiotic soluble fiber. Prebiotics are the “food” that help beneficial microflora grow to healthy levels. scFOS® is derived from non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) beet or cane sugar. The unique short-chain structure in scFOS® can be utilized more quickly by the beneficial microflora in the digestive tract. Vitamin C
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water soluble vitamin that supports many parts of the body including tendons and ligaments, blood vessels, bone, and brain chemical health. Humans do not produce vitamin C in their body naturally and so must obtain this essential vitamin through dietary and supplemental means.
Vitamin B1
Vitamin B1, also known as thiamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that every cell in the body needs to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP)—the power-packed molecule essential for energy production. The human body also needs Vitamin B1 to break down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Vitamin B1 is beneficial in maintaining normal nerve cell function, and, because it is excreted in urine and cannot be stored, it is important to get a daily dose.
Vitamin B3
Vitamin B3, also known as niacin, is essential for cell respiration (energy release from the cell) and helps release the energy stored in carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Vitamin B3 can also support normal circulation, healthy skin and nervous system function, and secretion of bile and stomach fluids.
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin that helps the immune system synthesize antibodies, helps maintain nerve function, and helps form red blood cells. Vitamin B6 also assists the chemical reactions required for protein digestion and aids the immune system by supporting the lymphoid organs (spleen, thymus, and lymph nodes) in their production of white blood cells.
Vitamin B9
Vitamin B9, also known as folic acid or folate, is necessary for cell replication and growth—this vitamin helps form portions of DNA and also RNA for protein synthesis. Vitamin B9 is most beneficial for fast-growing or regenerating tissues and cells such as red blood cells and immune cells. A deficiency in this vitamin has been implicated in anemia, as Vitamin B9 helps the body use iron properly. Vitamin B9 can be especially beneficial during pregnancy.
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 assists with normal nerve cell health, DNA replication, red blood cell formation and the production of SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine). SAMe is required in more than 40 biochemical reactions in the body and helps produce brain chemicals and joint tissues. Vitamin B12 also helps maintain normal energy levels and supports the immune system.
Vitamin D3
Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is produced when the skin is exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. This fat-soluble vitamin helps with calcium absorption and retention through reduced urinary calcium loss.* Vitamin D3 also supports the immune system through blood cell formation and promotes healthy cell differentiation.* A severe Vitamin D3 deficiency is associated with rickets, which is rare in the U.S.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is actually an umbrella term for 8 different antioxidant substances; we know vitamin E most commonly as Alpha-tocopherol because it is this form that is actively utilized in the human body. Alpha-tocopherol is a fat soluble vitamin that acts as a free radical scavenger in the body, helping to protect cells, and specifically essential fats, from destruction. Vitamin K2
Vitamin K2, also called menaquinone, is a fat soluble vitamin group known for its coagulant properties, or its role in healthy blood clotting. Zinc gluconate is a natural mineral that promotes growth and development of healthy body tissues.
